HUMAN SOCIETY, SPIRITUALITY AND RENEWAL

In today’s world humanity is continuing to push back the frontiers of knowledge.  However, the physicist Professor Kurt Dressler has formulated our ultimate quest as ‘the fundamental human search for the origin, essence, and end of our puzzling existence in a multifaceted world.’  This search may lead us into religion, philosophy or science.  But at the end of the day it is a search into our deepest nature.  In this talk we will give consideration to the meaning of human society and spirituality, as well as the possibility of renewal if we dare to look at ourselves intelligently.”

Presented by Linda Oliveira, National President of the TS in Australia.

Wednesday February 8th 2:00 pm

CHANGING THE DREAM, AWAKENING THE DREAMER

The work of the Pachamama Alliance in the Amazon rainforest and Ecuadorian Andes.

The Pachamama Alliance was born in response to a request from the Achuar, an indigenous people deep in the Amazon region of Ecuador.  The Achuar made the courageous decision to seek a partnership with people from the industrialized world who would work with them in protecting their rainforest home and their traditional way of life.  Out of this unique partnership, it has become evident that indigenous wisdom and insight offer enormous value in addressing the complex issue that we face in our modern world.  The aim is to bring about an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, socially just human presence of this planet.

Presented by Dr. Ben-Zion Weiss, Lecturer at UWS and a community educator in social ecology, meditation, yoga, drama, ESOL, cross-cultural conflict and non-violence training.

Wednesday February 15th 2:00 pm

COSMIC SOUND – An experiential musical workshop

What is the meaning of ‘The Music of the Spheres’?  Mary will be talking about how she came to explore the power of the tones and their relationship to cosmic sound.   Together we will explore:

  • our connection with the world of the stars
  • our resonance to the music of the spheres
  • the  transformative power of the seven tones
  • the  divine principle of the sacred number seven underlying the harmony of the cosmos

This will be illustrated by slides, live and recorded music, and the audience will be invited to participate.

Presented by Mary Masselos, Concert violinist, music therapist, psychotherapist and author of Music the Healer – Seven Tone Method.

Wednesday February 22nd 2:00 pm

Mathematics and the Beautiful: Creativity in the Arts & Sciences

Presented by John Spraggon, TS Member, Mathematician and Educator.

Wednesday February 29th 2:00 pm

The Gayatri Mantra

Gayatri is the most renowned of the Vedic mantras.  Addressed to Savitr, it forms part of a traditional Hindu sacrament.  But in reality, there is nothing Hindu about it.  A lofty prayer unmatched in its sublimity, it is as well a prayer for the whole of humanity.  A japa or meditative utterance of it needs no accompanying rite and anyone can reverentially participate in it. A VISUAL AND AUDIO PRESENTATION LOOKING AT THE MEANING OF THE GAYATRI MANTRA

Presented by Ian Wood, Student of Indian & Tibetan philosophy & spirituality.
