The Three Obligations of the Theosophical Society

Simon O'Rourke, TS Member

The ancient teachings point out that there are three obligations; to the Gods; to the Elders, Rishis or Saints; and to our ancestors. In this context, what does the Theosophical Society owe to the world?

The Meaning of Words

Howard Gregg, TS Member

Ancient words can have profound meaning when misunderstood or mistranslated in the worlds spiritual traditions. Ordinary words adopted into regular use within these same traditions can also have a profound effect. This lecture will give some insightful examples.

Esoteric Aspects of Music - What is the Music of the Spheres?

Mary Masselos, TS Member

What is the meaning of ‘The Music of the Spheres’?  Mary will be talking about how she came to exploring the power of the tones and their relationship to cosmic sound.

Through working with individual musical tones Mary discovered a whole universe of archetypal images, patterns, vivid responses and wonderful connections between the inner life and the cosmic world.

As Mary continued to seek the voice or soul of the tones this connection became a cosmic bridge of light / sound and she began to see what the mystics might have meant when they uttered their cryptic words on the magic of tone and the art of divine music.

It seems very natural to follow this bridge into planetary spheres, sensing inwardly the harmonies the planets sing as they move through their heavenly space, and even to be able to hear with inner ears, as Pythagoras could.  Perhaps we can experience the keynote of each planet as we listen with awakened perception to the music around us in this talk.

Ghosts - Some Recent Experiences

Gordon Marshall , TS Member

The unseen world is around us and within us and most people are fascinated by the idea of ghostly phenomena. Gordon will explore aspects of this phenomena and give some examples through his own recent experiences.
Gordon is by training a maritime archaeologist, and has published a couple of books on the subject. He began by studying eastern philosophies and has since trained as a white witch and Romany Gypsy.

Gordon was brought up in a house haunted by a dead soldier and has always been interested in the other side.

A few years ago he began to research ghosts and hauntings with the help of a clairvoyant friend, Richard Shar. Together they visited over 60 haunted sights, and made contact with ghosts where they were present.
In this illustrated talk he will share the findings and look at ghosts and hauntings, human and non human, in Australia and elsewhere.

These will include:

- The skeleton which walked across a farm property.
- The black animal with red eyes which terrorised an Adelaide Hills family.
- The hangman who had been on site for over 160 years.
- The Riverlands ghost of Devlin who rides a white horse.

Gordon had a first hand encounter with the ghost of poet Adam Lindsay Gordon who was stalking him, with interesting results

Methods of protection will be mentioned and what to do if you find yourself in a haunted house.
